Old Man Saltbush Atriplex nummularia

Old Man Saltbush is a fast-growing shrub. Today it is used commonly as a livestock grazing plant. However, both the seeds and leaves are a tasty bush tucker! The leaves are salty in flavour and rich in protein, antioxidants and minerals. And are used as a leafy vegetable, enjoyed blanched, sautéed, wrapped around meat or fish, used in salads, or for stuffing poultry. Alternatively, they may be dried and used as a herb or sprinkle. Harvest your Saltbush leaves by simply plucking or cutting them.

This species occurs naturally in WA, SA, NT, VIC, NSW and QLD. And can be grown in your garden or in pots. If harvested (pruned) regularly, it makes a great gap filler or edible hedge.

Our plants are currently available in 140mm pots and are a great size.
