Worsleya procera Blue Amaryllis
Worsleya procera Blue Amaryllis The legendary Blue Amaryllis! This amazing plant, rarely seen for sale is a Hippeastrum relative that is endangered in its Brazilian homeland. With is natural population rapidly dwindling. It is found growing hanging from cliffs near waterfalls. And is a challenging plant to grow. But with the right conditions it is a real treasure in the garden!
It is an evergreen plant reaching 1-1.5m high. With beautiful glaucous green arching leaves that resemble the shape of a roosters tail coming out of a stem with a swollen stem base. It flowers in summer for us. With large and beautiful lilac blue flowers. In clusters of 7-14 flowers per stem.
Ideal conditions are cooler nights and daytime temperatures below 36 degrees. However our plants have been thriving in the nursery these last few years in our much warmer, much more humid conditions. We provide them with direct full sun till lunch around 1-2pm. And then afternoon shade. And a water through the warmer months. With less frequent watering in winter.
We have some beautiful specimens available in 200mm pots. A number of years old, and coming close to flowering age.
