Dombeya wallichii Tropical Hydrangea Tree or Pink Ball Tree
Dombeya wallichii Tropical Hydrangea Tree or Pink Ball Tree is a stunning feature tree for the garden. With large pink ball shaped flowers that resemble a pink hydrangea that elegantly hang below the leaves. And a soft fragrance like frosted cake!
This Dombeya is considered a large shrub or small tree, growing approx 3 to 6m in our climate. And loves a position in part sun or full sun. They like a moderate amount of water. And will produce copious amounts of large flowers when watered well. They start flowering sometime in autumn, with peak flowering through winter, finishing sometime in early spring. Adding much needed colour and delight to the garden in winter.
They can be shaped into a beautiful structural tree, grown as a shrub, or hedge. And can be grown in a pot, although they perform best when in the ground. Prune to shape/size. They can tolerate light frosts, but prefer a frost free garden.
We fertilise our dombeya with EarthLife Flower Blend to encourage masses of flowers while keeping its growth bushy, healthy and compact.
We have beautiful plants available in 200mm pots in the nursery and for postage. Please note due to the soft nature of the leaves, they may have some cosmetic marks, holes or damage where they rub on stakes in the nursery, or in the postage process. But they will be happy and healthy plants.
