Petraeovitex bambusetorum Nong Nooch Vine - growing - pre-order in store for December 26
Petraeovitex bambusetorum Nong Nooch Vine.
To say that this stunning plant is rare is an understatement! It’s natural habitat has been shrouded in mystery. Once suspected to be a native to Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, and the Pacific Islands including Australia. It is now suspected to be a native of Borneo. Though you will be hard pressed to find a record of it existing in the wild. This uncertainty about its origin may come from its English name, Nong Nooch Vine. Named after the famous Nong Nooch Botanical Gardens in Thailand which brought this mysterious plant to fame!
Although very rare, it is nevertheless encountered in several botanical gardens around the world. It is a vine that clings only slightly to its support and tends to hang down. Its foliage is a beautiful mid-dark green. The fabulous long hanging flowers are rather complex. Yellow flowers wrapped in bracts that look like the leaves but are bright yellow. At the heart of these bracts appear the creamy white flowers. It flowers for quite a period. Starting in spring and ending in autumn for us. It is reputed to be easy to grow. And is best grown in a hanging pot from which they can elegantly flow and cascade like a Golden Waterfall.
They love a warm position in part sun to full sun. And cannot tolerate temperatures at freezing. They are best kept in a warm position in the garden. And love a well drained soil with plenty of organic compost. A regular light fertilise with Flower Blend Rock Minerals will get the best out of this stunning plant. But do not give them a moderate or heavy feed.
These plants are seldomly offered for sale. Get one while they are available.
