Solanum quitoense Golden Fruit Of The Andes or Naranjilla
This rare South America fruit from the Andes is a wonder to behold. With fruit that are orange, leathery skinned, and a bright green refreshing pulp. Best eaten fresh, used in fresh juices, sorbets, and smoothies. They have a unique, vibrant, tart citrus-pineapple flavour. And are considered one of the best fruits for making fresh juices. Which are referred to as “the nectar of the gods” in Columbia and Ecuador.
These plants are related to eggplants and tomatoes, featuring large, velvety purple-tinged leaves with a dramatic, tropical appearance. They need to be protected from frosts. And will grow 1-3m tall. They can be pruned to keep them shorter. And thrive in part shade, dappled shade, or morning sun.
