This beautiful banksia from Western Australia sports stunning bright red flowers. Commonly called the Scarlet Banksia, the flowers offset beautifully against the green and silver foliage. And makes the most wonderful cut flower.
It can be grown as a shrub to 1-2meters with a yearly prune. Or alternatively let it grow into a small tree 3-5m tall. It loves a part sun to full sun position and well drained soil. It dislikes clay soil- so grow it in a pot or raised bed if you have a clay soil. It grows very well in containers or pots that have good drainage. It can be a short lived plant in humid areas along the east coast. Tolerates light frosts once established. And is a fantastic flor attracting birds, bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators to the garden. For best results fertilise regularly using Garden Delight Rock Minerals.
